# Run and understand the server

Elsa Foundation contains the Elsa 4 server libraries and the reference `Elsa.Workbench` host. Start with [Try Elsa locally](/essentials/essentials/quickstart.md) and [Your first workflow](/essentials/essentials/first-workflow.md) for the recorded Workbench/Studio image pair.

For development and deeper operational guidance:

* [Run the published Workbench and Studio images](https://github.com/elsa-workflows/elsa-foundation/blob/main/docker/compose/README.md#quick-start--published-images-no-clone-or-build).
* [Build and run the backend from source](https://github.com/elsa-workflows/elsa-foundation/blob/main/docs/contributing/backend-source-quickstart.md).
* [Take the architecture tour](https://github.com/elsa-workflows/elsa-foundation/blob/main/docs/architecture-tour.md), then [follow a workflow execution](https://github.com/elsa-workflows/elsa-foundation/blob/main/docs/how-a-workflow-executes.md).

The reference host is one composition of Elsa features. A custom host may compose a different set. Module-level notes and API details remain beside their projects. Use the [repository overview](https://github.com/elsa-workflows/elsa-foundation/blob/main/README.md#start-here) to navigate the source, and check the package version you deploy before applying guidance from the development branch.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://v4.elsaworkflows.io/essentials/essentials.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
